Rheinhessen, Germany’s largest wine region, long known as the “land of a thousand hills”. While the Romans were planting vines here two thousand years ago, it’s the younger generation that’s stealing the spotlight today and few more so than Johannes Gröhl and his sister Franziska. They represent the 13th generation of a family estate that’s been growing grapes since 1625. Recently crowned “Rising Star of the Year” and “Newcomer of the Year” by some of Europe’s top wine magazines, Johannes has brought a new spark to a winery where history runs as deep as the roots of its Riesling vines.
