The Seewinkel subregion of Andau is one of Austria’s driest and warmest spots, and its unique mix of sandy gravel and mineral-rich soils left behind by the Danube has made it a sweet spot for growing bold, character-driven wines. It’s also home to Zantho, a winery founded in 2002 that has quickly become one of Austria’s most exciting names. Their labels carry the image of the rare Pannonian lizard, a sun-loving little creature that shares their vineyards in the Hansag National Park, a fitting mascot for a winery so deeply connected to its land. With 70 hectares under vine and a strong commitment to sustainability, Zantho is showing the world just how vibrant and versatile Burgenland can be.
